February programme of cultural activities for our Spanish students
At Instituto Hemingway, we believe that learning a language involves more than simply studying grammar and filling in exercises; students have to live and above all enjoy the culture that surrounds it. For this reason, every month we design a programme of cultural activities for our Spanish students. These activities come in all shapes and sizes, but they are always authentically Spanish and completely free for Instituto Hemingway students.
This month, we’ve got exciting activities planned, such as:
- A trip to Gernika: Although small, this town is one of the Basque Country’s most important historic sites. After being bombed by the Luftwaffe in 1937, the town made itself a symbol of peace.
- Wine-tasting: At the Instituto, we have our very own wine connoisseur who will reveal to us about the secrets of wine. Of course, there will be ample opportunity to try all the wines!
- Bilbao Carnival: On the 16th of this month, the Bilbao carnivals begin and the city will go crazy. Everyone dresses up, celebrates and enjoys themselves, and at Hemingway we’ll be joining in by going out to the Casco Viejo for a Carnival-themed Pintxos Tour.
- Mount Pagasarri: We’ll be spending one sunny Sunday morning climbing this small mountain, a real natural gem located close to the city. The panoramic views from the summit are spectacular.
