Of Mice, Men and Spanish students: learn Spanish at the Arriaga Theatre
On Friday, 9th March, the Instituto Hemingway Spanish students went to a Spanish-language production of “Of Mice and Men”, which was premiering in the Arriaga Theatre. The play was based on the John Steinbeck novel, and was adapted into Spanish and for the stage by Juan Caño Arecha y Miguel del Arco.
The play told the story of two friends and their struggles to survive in rural California during the Great Depression. Lennie is a giant of a man, physically very powerful but mentally slow, who is always finding himself in trouble. He travels with George, a crafty but nonetheless caring character.
We found the play very moving, and the end left us with tears in our eyes. However, we had a great time and wiped away the tears with a glass or two of wine in the Casco Viejo after the play.
An entertaining alternative activity for a Friday night in Bilbao
