Our Spanish school makes headlines

Last Saturday, 17th March, El Correo newspaper published a series of photos of groups of students who had visited their offices. Among the photos were those taken when Instituto Hemingway took a behind the scenes tour at the newspaper with two groups of students from France.

El Correo is a well known Spanish daily, based in Bilbao. It puts on this activity for school-leavers, to help them to understand a little of the world of journalism. The visit lasted approximately an hour and a half, during which time students explored the different areas of the publishing house, discovered the process of creating a newspaper from writing to printing, and generally spent a very pleasant afternoon.

Our French students found the visit very interesting and informative, and enjoyed the opportunity to practice Spanish as well as finding out about the world of publishing and journalism. More than one confessed surprise: “It’s incredible what goes on behind the scenes in publishing. You just don’t realise how much work goes into a newspaper, when you see them on sale every morning”.

We’re sure that “El Correo” newspaper will from now on have a special place in our students’ hearts, and that it will be their first port of call when they want to practise their Spanish reading skills.
