Study a Spanich course and discover the Spanish culture: Holy Week in Bilbao

Here at Instituto Hemingway, we’re sorting out the final details of our Holy Week (Semana Santa) activity timetable, so that we can get the most out of the religious festivals taking place in Bilbao, and all over Spain.

The South of Spain is particularly well-known for its Holy Week celebrations, which are seen as so unique and special that they have actually been declared a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. In Sevilla, Holy Week is celebrated with spectacular processions, and in Malaga, a prisoner is freed every year.
Nevertheless, Holy Week is one of the most important traditions for every city in the Peninsula, and it is celebrated with traditional enthusiasm here in Bilbao.

You just can’t miss out on the processions. The first one – the “Procession of the Virgin of Sorrows” will take place on Friday, 30th March, leaving at 8.30pm from the Parish of San Vincente Mártir in Abando. This will begin a cycle of processions, at least one per day until Sunday 8th April.
For more detailed information about each of the processions, consult the following link:

In order to introduce our students to these intrinsically Spanish traditions, we have made sure to include the most famous processions in our timetable of free cultural activities.

Don’t hesitate to sign up, to discover the real Semana Santa alongside your classmates.
