Bringing the Basque culture into our Spanish classes
The Guardian, a well-known British newspaper, has recently published a brief video report on the Basque culture.
This interesting video reflects on the origins on the Basque people and discusses their most deeply-rooted traditions. The report covers such varied topics as the Basque language, traditional sports and other cultural aspects such as bertsolaris (improvised songs and poetry), traineras (traditional boats)…
We at Instituto Hemingway thought that it would be interesting to share this video with you. Many of the students who come to visit us choose Bilbao because they are already highly interested in the Basque culture and want to discover more about it, while still others arrive here and are amazed by the richness of the culture that surrounds them.
As you know, (and as we always tell you!) the best way to learn a language is by immersing yourself completely in the country where it is spoken and by taking an active part in its culture. Studying in the Basque Country means discovering a folkloric tradition completely different to that of the rest of Spain and which is becoming increasingly well-known throughout the world.
If you want to get away from the stereotypes and discover the cultural richness of Spain for yourself, we’re sure that you will be delighted with the Basque Country.
And we would be delighted to share it with you!
