Course for Spanish as a Foreign Language teachers
September 05, 2013
Patricia Gisbert Llorens

About teaching and learning foreign languages

Hi everyone!!!
Now that I’m about to finish this course I’ve to say that I’ve learned much more than I expected from the beginning ; I’ve been teaching for more than five years now, and although my main speciality is Arts in Secondary School, at some point I re-converted myself into an English Teacher too by getting the C2 level in English and now I can not only teach English, but teach Art through English using CLIL methodology. What I’ve learned by studying this interesting course is , not only that I was doing some things in the right way ( most of them based in my own experience or for being practical from one year to another, like the Teacher’s self-evaluation by recollecting questionaries fulfilled by the students about the materials, strategies in class, the teacher,…), but also things that I can use combining methodologies in both my Art classes and my English classes ( and I hope soon , my Spanish classes for foreigners).

I believe the best way to teach ANYTHING should be by ” getting the student into it”; Once you’ve trapped him or her into the subject him or herself starts to be responsible of their own learning process, and so you can be there for them by being a guidance,; that’s in my opinion about "what a teacher should be". And you can only can your students into that state by showing them your own passion when you are explaining any subject.

I too have heard that , concerning the learning process in the languages field, is very important the emotional link you create with the language; for example, people that fall in love with someone that speaks French would have less difficulty learning French that people who don’t.

And also people passionate for travelling have a lot of interest (and maybe facility too) to learn foreign languages. And, despite learning new languages is always a good idea, The reason that for sure is going to convince some skeptics is that the part of the brain you stimulate by learning new languages is the same that gets damaged when you suffer from Alzheimer or senile dementia, so by exercise this part you can be sure you reduce at least an eighty percent your possibilities of suffering from those sicknesses.
So, I guess everybody knows now how passionate I am about languages, and even more after studying this complete course. I hope you all enjoy the same as me.
