Seeking Job opportunities abroad as a Spanish teacher
Some time ago I started this course because I saw teaching Spanish as a potential employment opportunity and I wanted to open up new possibilities because in a few months I would be moving from Spain to Switzerland.
I´m a translator and although Spanish is my native language and I have had language clases when I was younger, I did not feel adequately trained to teach other people. I´m aware that in this sector there is quite a lot of professional instruism, above all abroad, where any native speaker of a language can put an anouncement up and give clases, but my intention was to start from the beginning, aquiring a theoretical basis and familiarising myself with resources that would help me to teach a class.
This course has helped me to clarify my doubts and has provided me with sources that I can use when I undertake a didactic programme. I now know which aspects I should bear in mind when creating activities and has shown me that teaching Spanish is a discipline that requires dedication, training and experience.
During the last part of the course, I have received german clases in Switzerland and this has allowed me to collect together lots of different ideas for teachers to undertake activities. I always have in mind the language clases I have attended both in Spain aswell as abroad. As a result, I have been able to observe what makes a more enriching class, the diffficulties that students can have depending on their nationality, and what I can apply from what I observe to my future classes.
I know that this has only been the first step and I still have a lot to learn. My expectations now are to be able to find a niche as a Spanish teacher and to continue to deepen my knowledge and experience by doing other courses. Now, i feel more prepared and at least, i have been able to respond to the question that always comes into my head when i think about giving clases: Where do I start?
