Reasons for taking an advanced Spanish teaching course

One of the reasons for choosing this advanced ELE course for Spanish teachers is because it offers a teaching methadology at a distance, in which one can adquire skills to teach the Spanish language. By choosing not to be present in the class, this did not impede the quality of the training that I received because there was interaction between the teachers and students and through chat it was possible to establish a relationship with other classmates.

Other reaons which made me decide to participate in the course have been the following:

• To improve my personal training in terms of the form, context and pragmatics used in the teaching programme.
• To renew my knowledge of spanish didactics
• To be aware of the evolving relationships between linguistics and language teaching.
• To reafirm my role as a spanish language teacher
• How to correct errors in the classroom and how to act to convert it into a positive aspect of learning without damaging the sesnsitivity of the learner or doing so without making anyone feel ridiculed.
• To further the use of new technologies in language teaching

Having finished the course, my expectations have greatly exceeded all the previous points.

The themes developed throughout the course included essential aspects in the teaching of a second language. Maybe, for me however, what I found most interesting and in which I am inclined to go into further detail in my Spanish didactics, is the use of new online technologies: digital whiteboard, electronic books, PDA, virtual learning environments (useful for teaching at a distance or semi-present), the ALAO etc … It´s predicted that these resources will be the future for teaching and learning.

To finish, I would like to conclude by saying that this course has allowed me to learn, like a native Spaniard, the difficulties that immigrants and foreign learners of a second language should overcome to be able to learn Spanish.
