Online courses for teachers of Spanish: becoming a better Spanish teacher
I finished the course this week. It took longer than I would have liked it to, because I was busy with work. However, I am pretty satisfied with what I have learnt, not only in the six modules and their corresponding practicals, but also through the recommended reading and the bilbliography I would consult whenever I needed to clear up an uncertainty. All this made for a pretty thorough educational experience.
Unsurprisingly, my expectations changed as I made my way through the modules and practicals and uncovered new ideas about teaching second languages.
The course has shown me how to approach teaching with a more substantial point of view; i.e, if there are indeed enough methods which one can use when starting teaching, I believe that the methodological approach chosen during this course was based on communication; from theory to the practicals, they never strayed from this path which I believe is the most useful for the students.
The course helped me to focus on all the possible aspects of clear communication without forgetting the important parts of the language such as grammar. And even though in this respect, there are different opinions, I believe that students knowing how to correctly communicate their needs and knowing how to get along with their daily needs, must be the most important and fundamental point for a teacher to focus on.
I can definitely confirm that the course was very useful and I hope that when I look for a job relating to what I had studied, it will be just as useful.
