Course for Spanish as a Foreign Language teachers
December 25, 2013
Elena Benito Martínez

New challenges as a Spanish teacher

I decided to do the ELE course as I am a TEFL accredited English teacher and I discovered that there is also a demand for Spanish teachers in schools and academies where classes are given in English.

On the other hand, I was also very curious about the course´s online form since I worked on this educational methodology in the research that I presented for the Diploma of Advanced Studies at UCM.

Personally, the result has been very enriching, despite the effort needed to balance working life with student life in extensive and highly specialised courses.

Being a languages teacher abroad is a challenge, particularly when you are giving the class to lower levels and children, and discovering the large amount of resources and information sources available for designing activities has been very interesting.

I always recollect the boring languages lessons that I had to suffer at school so if there is one thing I am aim to do in my classes is ensure that the students enjoy learning or that they learn without knowing it. This requires a lot of creativity, energy, and dedication.

If there was anything missing it was that one of the modules could have covered the teaching of Spanish using online resources and the use of social networks (twitter, facebook...) for these purposes".

In short, I cannot say more than that I think it was well worth the effort.
