New horizons as a Spanish teacher in Spain
My name is Ana Agar. I have a degree in English Philology (1996) and another one in Translation and Interpretation (1998). I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language for 15 years, both in Spain and in Germany. I have taught mostly in language schools, but also in companies and private classes. I have worked with all ages and all levels.
I taught conversation Spanish classes in Copenhagen, to fellow Danish students, who wanted to practice their Spanish. I was an ERASMUS student at the time. I also taught Spanish in Berkeley, California, USA. I taught adults in a language school and children as after school activity. It was funny to see their reactions to my pronunciation; someone even asked me if I was speaking Portuguese, because of my pronunciation of the sound /z/.
I have lived, studied and worked in different countries. I speak Spanish, English, German, French and Catalan (B2).
I decided to enroll in this course because of different reasons. I am a mother of two now and I want to be with them afterschool. I normally find work during after school hours as an English teacher. However, Spanish language schools offer many classes during the morning. Not being a native English speaker is an added problem for me. Many schools hire exclusively English native teachers, although I have all the necessary qualifications and experience. Since I am a native Spanish speaker I hope it will be easier for me to find a job. Thirdly, since I finished my studies a while ago, I felt this could be a great opportunity to freshen up and learn new things.
I must say I have learnt a lot in this course and I have enjoyed myself writing the Final Report. I is based on a hypothetical real situation, but I do feel I have the knowledge and resources necessary to face any real situation.
I am looking forward to starting my new adventure as a Spanish teacher. Undoubtedly, I will use this course as material for future reference.
